His name was Bentley . . . and he was obsessed with snowflakes. He was also a pioneer in macro photography.

As accomplishments go, that's pretty neat. Not only did he innovate in photographic technique, but discovered the uniqueness of design of every snowflake.
There is perfect Zen in every snowflake: it is here, it is gone . . . its beauty and complexity a fleeting thing. Like the great mandalas created by Buddhist monks only to be swept away in an instant, they teach us that all is impermanence.
